into something not short of benghazi-gate. what is going on here? >> chris: defense secretary panetta, finally calling the benghazi assault an act of terrorism. while republican senator bob corker joins a growing number of officials questioning whether the obama administration was involved in a cover-up. and, we're back now with the panel. the director of national intelligence issued an extraordinary statement friday afternoon, that their initial information was, that it was a spontaneous protest, but since then they got new information, they revised their assessment, and they now believe it was a deliberate, quoted, deliberate and organized terrorist attack. question, bill: does that get the obama white house off the hook in their shifting explanations of what happened in benghazi? >> well, it shouldn't because it was clear, it was a terrorist attack and leon panetta said it was obviously an attack, before susan rice said it was a spontaneous protest about a video and the president has a big investment in the narrative, is usama bin laden dead an al-queda finished and, it turns out al qaeda a

. yet sequestration, what you mentioned bob, the automatic cuts, republicans hate the defense cutses. democrats hate the nondefense cuts. and then you have the treasury debt seale chicago gives leverage to whatever party doesn't win the presidential election. i think odds are pretty high we'll get an agreement. >> i think the best place for both sides to start is in education because i sit in a lot of conversations with republicans. i spend a lot of conversations with democrats, and they agree on a whole lot more than they disagree on. so it seems to me that both parties could come together and say okay we're going to put the partisan politics aside and look out for the interests of kids, and let's focus on education first. >> schieffer: do you know what bothers me about all this and what really worries me is i sit here and watch the congress. i know what you say is true. there are certain things that both sides want to do, but even now, this divide is so wide, even now, on things they want to do, they can't figure out how to do it. i mean, for example, a farm bill. we had the worst

defense keeps it close and then he finds a way to work his magic near the end. you have to give that a try. that's not why they brought him in. i think they're going to stick with sanchez stubbornly longer than they should. >> this is why lou holtz is so right, when you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks. the thing is the quarterback's going to have a bad game. you've got to stick with that quarterback, ride the quarterback through the season. and then trade him at the end of the season. you know, sanchez, i don't know if it's good or bad, but every time he threw a pass, he was looking over at tebow. and it distracts you. >> i don't think that's what he was looking at. >> they've got 12 more games. if they ride him out through 12 more games, they could be in trouble. >> they could be in a position to get geno smith or matt barkley. >> they just trade him. >> so let's talk about the saints/packers. packers get jobbed on "monday night football," almost get jobbed again yesterday at home against the saints. >> it was going to be a riot. darren sproles fumbled the ball. the ball w

ago, but in my defense, people thought that he was -- and several congressmen would run. because it is so hard to be an incumbent president, i still love chris christie, and hopi runs one day -- he was so brave in the way he took on public- sector unions, with no republican had done before, and everybody loved it. he was so articulate and bright and had become the star. for one thing, chris christie made it very clear he was not running. hei supported romney in 2008 ani changed my mind about being able to be obama, though i do not think anyone could've done it, and mitt romney is not only the best candidate to run against obama, because in the past has forced his opponents to default. he did so when he ran for the illinois legislature, 1st the forced his democratic performance in the primary. a securities trader dug up some divorce records and suddenly, he falls to the bottom of the pack and obama wins the primary. then he was running against a spectacular republican in the general election from illinois. he is like the mitt romney of illinois. i think it would be an obama. once

're not in complete denial. but you do hear a lot of defensiveness from the romney camp, a lot of sort of see no evil, refusal to admit that things are actually as bad as they are, a lot of sort of from the audiences at these events as well, the romney supporters you hear a lot of blaming the media for the condition that he's in. and you know, it really seems like unless they are more willing to admit the hole they're in they're going to have trouble getting out of it. >> i'd like to know what they are saying in private. do you have any intel on that? or is it still private? >> well, just that they can see what's happening. they know that it's not all roses and sunshine. they don't really believe that they are secretly winning and there's actually been some kind of conspiracy to cover it up. >> susan, we have mitt romney who's down there in the state of north carolina where there's a 9.7% unemployment. he's down in nevada where there's a 12.1% jobless rate. would you think this is where the misery index would be the highest? and with mr. romney still being behind, do you deduce that something's wrong
